Goldie Floberg clients and staff spent their spring break meeting with legislators. They advocated for services for people with developmental disabilities. They educated legislators on such important facts as:
- Over the past 13 years, Agencies providing community living services for people with developmental disabilities have received a total of only 9.5% in cost of living increase (COLA) increases since 2002. There has not been an increase since 2008. Compare that to inflation, which adds up to 29.9% since 2002.
- Community services are significantly less costly than state operated developmental centers (SODC). The average annual cost to Illinois to serve an adult in a community group home is $54,283 per year compared to an average of around $225,000 for SODCs.
A big thanks goes out to the legislators who took the time to meet with us and other service providers, people served and their families!
You can help support the Goldie Floberg and other agencies serving people with developmental disabilities by contacting your legislators and asking them not to cut funding for people with developmental disabilities.
